Re-polls on Feb 18, indirect election to Mayor post on March 1

Chennai, Jan 28 (UNI) The re-polls to 100 wards of Chennai Corporation will be held on February 18 and the indirect election to the post of Mayor will be held on March One, Tamil Nadu State Election Commissioner (SEC) D Chandrasekaran said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the notification for the re-polls would be released tomorrow and filing of nominations would begin tomorrow.

Election code of conducts would come into effect from Monday, he said.

Mr Chandrasekaran said nominations would be accepted till February five and scrutiny would be held on February six.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations was February eight.

He said counting would start on February 20 and the election process would be completed by February 21.

To a question, he said the re-polls would be conducted on party basis and preference in symbol allotment would be given to registered but unrecognised political parties.

About 2195 polling booths would be set up.
