MP CPI stage demonstration in front of Rajbhawan

Bhopal, Jan 28 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Communist Party of India today staged a protest demonstration in front of the Rajbhawan here and courted arrest in support of their demands for strict action against communal forces and labour policy for 'hamals (porters)'.

However, police denied that arrests were made.

CPI workers led by party leader Krishna Modi took out a rally from Itwara area and submitted a 10-point memorandum to Governor Balram Jakhar.

Mr Modi told a public meeting here that ''Gujarat experiment'' was being repeated in the state by the administration under the patronage of the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh Government.

He claimed that police had arrested 500 party workers, who were agitating in front of the Rajbhawan.

Superintendent of Police Anant Kumar Singh denied that arrests were made and said agitating crowd were persuaded and removed.

Later, a delegation led by Mr Modi met Dr Jakhar and demanded directing the state government to take strict action against communalism and criminals and providing Rs 400 pension to destitute besides other demands.
