Managements reiterate promise to provide scholarship

Kochi, Jan 28 (UNI) In its discussions with Kerala Education Minister M A Baby, the managements of the self-financing colleges have reiterated their promise to provide scholarships to students from the economically weaker sections of the society.

In the talks here last night the managements' representatives said scholarship would be given to 25 per cent students from the economically-weaker sections of the society.

Sources said the minister was informed that the managements would go by the High Court's order for admission to the professional colleges.

The managements also stressed the importance of merit in admission to courses in higher education and said the entrance test for 85 per cent seats would be conducted by a Bangalore-based independent agency.

Meanwhile, the mangements rejected the government's demand to reserve 50 per cent seats as government quota, sources added.
