Law 'N' order in TN intact: Karunanidhi
Tiruchirapalli, Jan 28: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President M Karunanidhi today said the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu was good and the crime rate was seven per cent lower compared to the situation under the previous AIADMK regime.
Addressing the press here, Mr Karunanidhi, replying to AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa's charge that the law and order situation was deteriorating in Tamil Nadu, said it was good when compared with the situation under the previous regime.
The Chief Minister said he was happy to inform the media that he had received a report this morning on a special police team led by State Inspector General of Police Jhangid arresting a ten-member notorious burglar gang in kolkata last night.
Hailing from Bangladesh, the gang had terrorised the people of Chennai, Bangalore, Vellore and Tirunelveli by undertaking a series of house burglaries in the past few years.
The major breakthrough achieved by the Tamil Nadu police in this case had proved its efficiency and showed the police could even nab criminals from other states.
When a reporter drew his attention to the recent remarks of Congress Working Committee Member M Veerappa Moily, who is also incharge of party affairs in Tamil Nadu, that the Congress had not dropped its demand for share of power in the state, Mr Karunanidhi shot back, ''The Congress men are not exerting pressure on the DMK.
It is only the media which is giving the pressure.
