Lala Lajpat Rai's statue unveiled in his native village
Moga, Jan 28 (UNI) A 12-foot-high bronze statue of Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai was today unveiled at Dhudike, his birthplace in this district on the occasion of his 142nd birth anniversary.
The statue was unveiled by members of the Lala Lajpat Rai birthplace Memorial Committee.
The statue, costing Rs nine lakh, was built by eminent sculpturist Vivek Kolhotkar of Baroda. Well-known architect, Ms Niti Sahni has designed the pedestal and the complex around the statue.
The first ever statue of Lala Lajpat Rai was designed and built by Vivek Kolhotkar's father. The statue was installed at Lahore in 1932 and after the Partition, it was shifted to The Mall in Shimla.
Another statue of Lalaji built by Mr Kolhotkar's father was installed in front of Parliament House in New Delhi.
