Inmates clash in Arthur Road Jail
Mumbai, Jan 28 (UNI) An undertrial was brutally assaulted when two groups of inmates clashed at the high security Arthur Road jail here this morning.
A fight broke out between two groups of undertrials early this morning. Police said today's violence was a sequel to the murder of another undertrial John Robert D'Souza who was killed on December 23 last year while he was lodged in Arthur Jail.
D'Souza, who had been arrested in connection with a robbery, was brutally attacked by rival gang members last December following a petty squabble. D'Souza had later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Police said the clash in the jail today was a subsequent reprisal to that episode. The N M Joshi Marg Police said an undertrial, Asgar Ali, was injured in today's incident and had been admitted to the State-run J J Hospital.
