Heavy fog disrupts flight services

Kolkata, Jan 28 (UNI) All morning flights at Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport were disrupted today following heavy fog.

Altogether 12 incoming flights had to be diverted, according to airport sources.

Failure of an equipment for measuring visibilty on the main runway added to the problem, they said.

National domestic carrier, Indian's flights from Bangalore to Mumbai were diverted to Guwahati after failing to land in Kolkata.

An Air India flight with Haj piligrims returning to the city was also sent to Nagpur because of poor visibilty. The fog that set in from 0600 hours brought the visibilty down to almost 25 meters, AAI MET sources said.

Indian's morning flights to Mumbai, Silchar and Delhi were held up here by three to four hours. A scopograph for measuring the runway visual range went out of order in the morning.

A private airline flight to Chennai and an Indian flight to Port Blair where the only morning flights that left Kolkata before the fog set in, sources said.
