Haryana govt to set up fund for mediapersons

Sirsa, Jan 28 (UNI) The Haryana government will set up a Pattarkar Kalyan Kosh, amounting to Rs 50 lakh, for mediapersons with a view to providing a congenial environment to them for performing duties with devotion and dedication.

The announcement was made by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while addressing the mediapersons at the 27th annual function of the Haryana Union of Journalists at Sirsa Club today.

The Chief Minister said the government had constituted the Haryana Accredited Press Committee for providing various facilities to the mediapersons in the state. He urged the mediapersons to wage a crusade against social evils like female foeticide and dowry.

''Media works as a bridge between the government and the people, as journalists highlight problems of the people,'' he said.

The Chief Minister stressed the need to promote investigative journalism. He said the government was trying to provide a number of facilities to the mediapersons in the state.

He announced that the mediapersons would be given land in the Group Housing Societies on the pattern of advocates.
