Chennai, Jan 28 (UNI) The Gujarat Government hopes to achieve 11.5 per cent growth during the XI Five Year Plan as suggested by the Union Planning Commission, Chief Minister Narendra Modi said here today.

Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of 'Vibrant Gujarat Investments Summit 2007' organised by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce Industry, he said to achieve 11.5 per cent growth, the government would concentrate on the development of the agriculture, ports and energy sectors.

After the summit, a total of 352 MoUs would be inked aggregating prospective investments worth Rs 4,61,835 crore, he added.

He said the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) were being structured in a manner that would make the state emerge as a major global manufacturing hub and provide huge employment opportunities.

SEZs in Gujarat would contribute to the country's future economic progress and land acquisition was not a problem at all. On the contrary, SEZs were designed to utilise the saline land on the vast sea coast.

So far, 33 SEZs had been approved without any controversy, he said adding the state had enacted an SEZ Act and it was the only state to have a meagre less than 0.5 per cent mandays lost due to peaceful industry-labour relations.
