Girija prasad Koirala bereaved

Kathmandu, Jan 28 (UNI) Senior leader of Nepali Congress and sister-in-law of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Ms Nona Koirala passed away here this afternoon.

Ms Koirala, 78, a member of the central working comittee of Nepali Congress was hospitalised a week ago following complaints of chest pain. She was suffering from both jaundice and heart complications, family sources said.

Ms Koirala had played a significant role in Nepal's democratic movement. She was under house arrest for some months in 2005 following King Gynendra's coup. She was imprisoned during the time of King's rule before the restoration of multiparty democracy for the first time in 1990.
