DPI leader hails CM's promise on appointment

Chennai, Jan 28 (UNI) The Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) general secretary Thol Thirumavalavan today thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his promise of filling the vacancies of lecturers in government colleges reserved for SCs and STs, in a phased manner.

Mr Karunanidhi made this announcement on the Floor of the State Assembly while wrapping up the discussion on the motion of thanks to Governor's address yesterday. Two third of such vacancies would be filled immediately and the rest in two instalments, he said.

Staing that the assurance was consoling to the affected communities Mr Thirumavalavan appealed to Mr Karunanidhi to fill all the 495 vacancies at one go, he said in a statement here.
