CPI leader plea to Lalu on TN railway projects
Chennai, Jan 28 (UNI) Senior CPI Leader and the Coimbatore Lok Sabha Member K Subbarayan has urged Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to take immediate steps for the early completion of railway projects, particularly the overbridges in Tamil Nadu.
In a letter to Mr Lalu, a copy of which was made available to press here today, the CPI leader said there was an inordinate delay in the completion of all railway overbridges (ROBs) and other projects in Tamil Nadu.
The delay in completion of the ROBs caused traffic snarls besides resulting in non-availability of the assured facilities. He also wanted the expedition of gauge conversion work between Coimbatore and Madurai.
On additional railway services, he wanted new fast passenger train services to be operated in between Coimbatore-Madurai, Madurai-Nagercoil, Tiruchirapalli-Chennai, Coimbatore-Chennai and Mayiladuthurai-Nagercoil.
He said industrialisation was impossible without adequate railway links and infrastructure which was 'lacking in the entire Southern districts of Tamil Nadu.' The CPI leader urged the Railway minister to sanction double line railway links with electrification beyond Villupuram to Southern districts immediately without considering the viability factors.
