Advani calls for unity among Hindus

Bangalore, Jan 28 (UNI) Giving a clarion call for Hindus to unite, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and BJP leader L K Advani said here today that the people of the community should transcend identities of caste, sub-caste, language and economic status to forge a single society.

Speaking at Soundarya Lahari Vaibhava, a mass recitation of hymns composed by ninth century Advita proponent and philosopher Sri Adi Shankaracharya, organised by Vedanta Bharati of K R Nagar in Mysore district, he said pride came with self-awareness and it also comes with collective action to celebrate all that was great in ones tradition.

Mr Advani said ''We must forcefully and contemptuously counter any criticism that pride in Hinduism amounts to communalism.'' Stating that Soundarya Lahari was a blend of spirituality and science, he said it had all answers that man was grappling with in the modern era. It also shed light on another question, whose answer had eluded modern science that had turned its back to religion, he added.

The BJP leader said Soundarya Lahari was the concept of beauty and its relationship is with truth and divinity. As the name itself suggested, Soundarya Lahari, a poetic celebration of mother cult, celebrated the beauty of the Mother of Universe, who embodied within herself truth, divinity and beauty, he added.

Mr Advani said ''The concept of Mother Cult is so deep-rooted in India that, we envison India, too, as Mother India or Bharat Mata.

This concept of creation and manifestation of divine mother had played a pivotal role in arousing natinalist sentiments among the Indian people.'' UNI RS KVV RL PM1718
