3 policemen among 7 people injured in stone-pelting at Kolhapur

Kolhapur, Jan 28 (UNI) At least seven people, including three policemen, were injured and a large number of vehicles damaged in stone-pelting at Murgud town in Kagal tehsil of the district today.

Police sources said the incident occurred when supporters of Mr Hussain Mushrrif, Maharashtra Minister for Dairy Development, took out a rally in favour of their leader. About 25 motor-cycles and two jeeps, including a police jeep, were torched by miscreants.

The situation in the town was tense but under control, police said, adding, no arrests had been made so far.

Later, an angry mob went on a rampage and attacked the Murgud Police Station for their failure to handle the situation.

Furniture, window glasses and other material were damaged in the incident. District Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukhwinder Singh had rushed to the spot to review the situation, the police said.
