Western Central Railway earnings up by 21 per cent

Bhopal, Jan 27 (UNI) Recording an impressive growth, the Western Central Railways Zone earned Rs 1,146 crore as revenue from April to December 2006, an increase of 21 per cent as compared to the same period in the previous year.

This was informed by Western Central Railway (Bhopal Circle) Rail Manager Ashok Kumar Agrawal after unfurling the tri-colour on the occasion of Republic Day at the WCR office here yesterday.

The total goods earnings recorded an increase of 11 per cent with loading of 19 million tonne taking place during the period as compared to 17 million tonne as compared to same period last year.

The total passenger revenue earnings showed an increase of 12 per cent.

Referring to passenger facilities, Mr Agrawal said unreserved ticket booking system had started at 87 counters in 13 stations and will start at 96 counters in 25 stations by the end of this financial year.

In near future, the system would be linked to reserved ticket booking.

He said the WCR had undertaken to provide fire-brigade training all frontline staff. Under this, 2,161 employees had been imparted training.
