Ban condemns death of Indian peacekeeper
United Nations, Jan 27: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the killing of an Indian peacekeeper near Magwe in Southern Sudan.
The Secretary General, in a statement, extended his condolences to the Indian Government and to the family of the deceased soldier.
He also demanded a swift investigation into the incident and called on all Sudanese parties to fully cooperate with the United Nations in this regard.
The UNMIS Indian peacekeeper was shot dead and two other peacekeepers were injured in an attack by unidentified assailants in Sudan yesterday.
The UN Chief also wished a speedy recovery to the injured soldiers.
The peacekeepers, part of the UN Mission in Sudan, were escorting a mine clearance team when the incident took place.
