Two undertrials pole vault over Central Jail wall

Ludhiana, Jan 27 (UNI) The scene was straight out of a Bollywood movie -- two undertrials pole vaulting over a 15-foot-high wall of the Central Jail here today.

According to police reports, undertrials Dalip Singh and Manoj Kumar used bamboo poles to pole vault over the outer wall of the Central Jail with jail officials staring in total disbelief. After landing safely outside the jail, they escaped and have not yet been traced.

Dalip Singh a resident of Chapara district in Bihar is facing trial in a murder case while Manoj Kumar is an undertrial in a NDPS case. The two were repairing a barrack on the jail premises when they got hold of the bamboo poles and pole vaulted over the wall.

After preliminary inquiries, assistant jail superintendent Avtar Singh and guards Gurdev Singh and Rajinder Singh had been suspended.
