TN minister denies Jaya's allegations on LTTE
Chennai, Jan 27: Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy today denied the allegations of AIADMK supremo and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa that LTTE followers had infiltrated in the state with country-made bombs.
In a press release here tonight, he said the state police acting on a tip-off two-days ago that iron ball bearings were to be smuggled to Sri Lanka by a nine-member gang, arrested them and efforts were on to unearth the truth by grilling them. Similar problems cropped up during the tenure of Ms Jayalalithaa and investigations were conducted, he added.
Mr Veerasamy said despite the timely and speedy action of the government, Ms Jayalalithaa is murmuring and alleging that the law and order problem has deteriorated in the state. The AIADMK leader has no right to issue such statements as her alliance partner and MDMK General Secretary Vaiko is an ardent supporter of LTTE, he alleged.
He said it was for Mr Vaiko to answer the charges levelled in Ms Jayalalithaa's statement, especially when the MDMK leader was proclaiming himself to be the saviour of LTTE.
