TN: Tight security for Karunanidhi's visit
Tiruchirapalli, Jan 27: Ahead of the visit of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi tomorrow, an unprecedented security cover has been made in the city.
Though, there was no specific threat perception from intelligence agencies, the City police, taking no chance enhanced the security arrangements and strengthened the manpower by drawing additional police force from neighbouring districts.
State Intelligence Service (IS) sources said that over 1,000 policemen were deployed in the city for security duty.
Anti-sabotage checks were being conducted along the convoy route and special security arrangements have been made at the function venues.
The state ministers and partymen would accord Mr Karunanidhi, a rousing reception on his arrival by the the Rockfort Express at the junction tomorrow.
Mr Karunanidhi would attend the wedding of Forest Minister N Selvaraj's son in the morning and later unveil a life-size bronze statue of late Rathinavel Devar, a noted freedom fighter and Chairman of the erstwhile Tiruchirapalli municipality at Devar hall in the city and launch various welfare measures for the economically weaker section and a drinking water scheme in the evening.
