Temperatures dip in HP after snow in Lahaul Spiti

Shimla, Jan 27 (UNI) Temperatures across Himachal Pradesh plummeted after western disturbance deposited mild snow in the higher altitude areas of Lahaul Spiti district after recording extreme warm temperatures in the state during the last two days.

The high altitude areas and Pin, Spiti and Lahaul Valleys of the district experienced about five cm snow last night, dropping night temperatures in the district to below minus four degrees Celsius.

However, the sky was clear over other tribal districts of Kinnuar, Chamba and Kullu and the nights temperatures were being recorded between minus eight and 15 degrees with the coldwave relenting in the state.

The minimum temperature at Shimla plummeted to 7.7 degree Celsius after recording a high of 9.5 and 10 degree for the last two days.

The met office said the state capital had recorded the warmest night during the winter season at 10 degree Celsius yesterday in five years, adding this was eight degrees above normal.

Similarly, the night temperatures at Sundernagar in Mandi district and Bhuntar in Kullu district also rose to 4.7 and 4.1 degree respectively, while Kalpa in Kinnuar recorded a marginal fall in the night temperature, which stood at minus 1.6 degree.
