SVU VC inaugurates seminar
Tirupati, Jan 27 (UNI) Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) Vice-Chancellor S Jayarama Reddy has inaugurated a seminar on 'the emerging trends in Indian capital market' here today.
Speaking at the seminar, organised by SVU department of commerce, Mr Reddy said two scams of serious ramtifications skimmed the investors confidence bitten badly -not once, but twice- investors became noticeably shy and even perceptibly paranoid. As a consequence, secondary market slipped into slumber and primary market passed into passivity, he added.
However, the recent years witnessed significant reforms in the capital market, he said.
A material development, which proved to be of immense relief to the investors, was dematerialisation of the scrips. Now 99 per cent of the scrips in the market were dematerialised, he said.
According to the economy intelligence unit survey of 2003 on corporate governance across the countries, as expected Singapore stood first in the list, followed by Hong Kong and somewhat surprisingly India, he quoted.
Bangalore Stock Exchange Director B Venkatachalam said in future 23 regional stock exchange centres would come up in the country.
