Suspected LTTE boats destroyed by Navy off Colombo
Colombo, Jan 27 (UNI) At least three suspected LTTE boats have been destroyed by Lankan naval gunboats on a routine patrol, on the restricted sea zone-off Colombo, top military and naval sources said.
Military Spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said the naval gun boats had identified the ''LTTE boats on their radars about six nautical miles off the Colombo restricted zone.'' ''As the suspicious boats did not heed the warnings, the Navy fired at and destroyed them between six and eleven nautical miles outside the restricted sea zone off Colombo,'' Brig Samarasinghe told UNI over the phone.
He said at least two suspicious boats were destroyed when the Navy fired at them.
