Suicide car bomber kills five in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Jan 27 (Reuters) A suicide car bomber killed five people and wounded 10 in a mainly Shi'ite area of eastern Baghdad today, police sources said.

The bomber blew up his vehicle near a busy intersection in the commercial street of the capital's New Baghdad district.

The sources said the casualty toll from the blast may rise.

There have been a spate of bombings targeting Shi'ites in Baghdad this week. Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has vowed to tackle militants from across the sectarian divide with equal force in a planned crackdown in the capital.
