Stars descend on impoverished UP district for Amar Singh's B'day

Mirzapur, Jan 27 (UNI) It was bright sunshine, yet the stars descended on this impoverished district of Uttar Pradesh to add glamour to the 51st birthday celebration of Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh.

Star of the millennium Amitabh Bachchan with wife Jaya in tow, alongside their son Abhishek and would-be daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai, who was the cynosure of all eyes, were among those who graced the celebration.

To mark the occasion, Mr Singh conducted the marriage of 51 girls from economically weaker sections of the society at the much reverred Vindhyavasini Devi shrine here.

Together with his wife Pankaja Singh, he solemnised the 'kanyadaan' of these orphan girls.

Ever since their engagement recently, there has been a lot of speculation about the date of Abhishek-Ash's marriage.

Understandably so, a 'teeka' near the 'maang' parting of the former Miss World drew much attention of the people.

UP Chief Minister and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav reached the place around 1100 hrs and presented a one kg gold 'mukut' (tiara) to the shrine.

Amar Singh offerred special prayers at the temple and gave ornaments to the newly wedded couples.

A lavish feast followed the community marriage ceremony.

UNI
