Silver zooms, gold falls
Mumbai, Jan 27 (UNI) Spot silver rose by Rs 25 per kilogram on increased demand while gold fell by Rs 25 per ten gm on poor demand today, traders at the Bombay Bullion Exchange said.
Silver fineness opened high at Rs 19,965 per kilogram on better buying support. Later, it zoomed to its highest and closed at Rs 19,975 with a gain of Rs 25 from Thursday's close.
In London, the white metal was also quoted high at 13.30/13.36 per troy ounce against US 13.17/13.24 dollar per troy ounce in New York.
However, standard gold (99.5) and pure gold (99.9) opened low at Rs 9,285 and Rs 9,330 per ten gm respectively on poor demand.
The yellow metals improved slightly and closed at Rs 9,290 and Rs 9,340 per ten gm respectively with a loss of Rs 25 each from their last close.
In London, the yellow metal also fell to USD 645.80/646.00 per troy ounce as compared to USD 646.40/647.40 per troy ounce in New York.
Following are the spot silver and gold closing prices: Silver (per kg) .999 grade : Rs 19,975 (19,950), Gold (per 10 gm): Standard mint 99.5 purity : Rs 9,290 (9,315), Pure gold 99.9 purity : Rs 9,340 (9,365).
