Muslim backwardness due to Secular forces: BJP

Lucknow, Jan 27: Holding the so-called secular forces responsible for Muslim backwardness in the country, BJP today said these outfits were only interested in vote bank politics.

Addresing a news conference here, BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javedkar said on the name of Sachar committee report they are now shedding crocodile tears and offering only 'lip sympathy'.

''BJP has always cared for the entire population and had brough the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan. But, other parties are ignoring the basic need of compulsory education for the minorities.'' Mr Javedkar, criticising the ''appeasement move'' by Congress and Samajwadi Party to woo minorities, said such effort will only lead to another division of the country.

On resentment among the party cadres after announcement of BJP candidates in the Uttarakhand assembly poll, he said good candidates were selected after taking feedback from all possible ends. ''There is always such resentment as several people were in line to obtain the ticket, but we will pacify them before the poll.'' Contradicting the pre-poll survey by a media group recently hinting that BJP was lagging in Punjab, the BJP spokesman maintained the party will emerge a winner.

Commenting on the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh and power crisis, he said only BJP will restore normalcy in the state after the assembly poll, as it did in Bihar.

''The activities of UP Development Council (UPDC) has been questioned in different quarters, while the much publicised Dadri power project is yet to take off,'' he noted.

However, Mr Javedkar refused to comment on today's function at Vindyachal on the 51st birthday of UPDC chairman Amar Singh. ''It is a private function,'' he said.
