Only Sonia, Karunanidhi can decide on power sharing: TNCC

Tiruchirapalli, Jan 27 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) today reiterated that only Congress President Sonia Gandhi and DMK Chief M Karunanidhi could decide on Congress sharing power in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, TNCC President M Krishnasamy said ''though the Congress workers were demanding power sharing.

I cannot decide on this matter. It could be decided only by Ms Gandhi and Karunanidhi.

Moreover, both the Congress and DMK had not agreed for power sharing before the pre-poll talks and neither we had demanded for it nor they had offered it,'' he added.

He said the party was presently engaged in strengthening its grassroots level.

On Andhra Pradesh government's move to build a dam across the Palar River, Mr Krishnasamy said the TNCC would raise its voice against the Andhra Pradesh government's move.

The Tamil Nadu government had already initiated certain steps on the Palar issue, he said.

Regarding the arrest of Sri Lankan Tamils on charges of smuggling steel balls and the Opposition's allegation on deteriorating law and order in Tamil Nadu, he said ''law and order was good under the DMK regime.'' He said the TNCC was now in a process of selecting new office bearers as per the request of Senior Congress Leader and in charge of Tamil Nadu affairs Veerappa Moily.

He said competent leaders would be retained and the selection list would be finalised only after getting the approval from the Congress High Command.
