Nominations for Municpal Corp begins

Visakhapatnam, Jan 27: Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner M K Meena said filing of nominations for 72 wards in the Municipal Corporation began today.

Addressing a press conference, he said 1,200 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were procured for forthcoming election on February 19.

About 1,028 polling stations would be set up and more than 5,000 polling personnel would be deployed for election work. There would be three general observers and one expenditure observer to monitor the entire election process, he added.

As many as 69,019 new voters were enrolled. Of the total 11,37,331 voters, men accounted for 5,74,000.

While the scruitiny would be on February 3, withdrawal of nomination on February 6 and polling on February 19. Counting will take place on February 21, and the ward members to be elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor on February 27, he informed.

District Collector A K Singhal said the model code of conduct has come into force following the issuance of election notification for the GVMC.
