Chennai, Jan 27 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi told the State Assembly today that a new district with Ariyalur as headquarters would be formed once the ongoing delimitation process was over by April this year.

Replying to a week-long debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address to the House, he said during the discussion, speakers from various parties had put forth the demand to form the new district.

He said the Election Commission had banned creation of new revenue divisions until the process of delimitation was over.

As any existing revenue districts could not be disturbed now, the process of creating new district would be taken after delimitation was over by April, he added.

On the demand for implementation of 'Hogenekkal integrated drinking water supply scheme,' Mr Karunanidhi said funds had been sought from Japan Bank for International Cooperation.

Recently, a team of Japanese experts had visited villages in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts and made a study.

As the Centre had also written to the Japanese Government in this regard, there was a possibility of getting the required funds. Even otherwise, the State Government would implement the project by getting funds from other sources, he said.
