Indian held for issuing bogus lease contracts
Dubai, Jan 27: An Indian businessman, who allegedly tried to bribe a labour ministry official here to hush up a scam in bogus leasing contracts for workers' accommodation, was arrested by police, Gulf News reported today.
According to the report an official was quoted saying that the man was found to have issued 20 leasing contracts for non-existent workers' accommodation to Dubai-based companies.
One company that had taken the lease admitted that it was a fake contract and paid the businessman Dh50,000 to get it instead of more than Dh1 million, which is the market rate.
The Indian, whose identity was not disclosed, was caught red-handed while trying to give Dh40,000 as a bribe to the labour ministry official.
He had also promised a sum of Dh 50,000 to the official for his silence.
