Guj announces 1 lakh compensation for victims

Surat, Jan 27: The Gujarat government has announced a compensation of Rs one lakh and Rs 25,000 for the deceased and injured students respectively in the school building collapse that occurred yesterday, sources said.

Adarsh Nivasi Shala, a tribal girls school, collapsed yesterday evening, killing 11 students and injuring 14 others at Dhichakpur village near Vyara in Surat district.

Around 30 students were trapped inside when the two-storey building collapsed.

The sources said the rescue operations were complete by 0500 hrs today.
