Curfew relaxed for two hours in Jabalpur
Jabalpur, Jan 27 (UNI) With the situation remaining peaceful, curfew clamped in six police station areas of the city in the wake of mounting communal tension over removal of posters relating to a religious function was relaxed for two hours this evening.
Collector Sanjay Dube said the curfew was relaxed between 1800 hrs to 2000 hrs following assurances of maintaining peace from representatives of members of both communities and prominent citizens.
Vidhan Sabha Speaker Ishwardas Rohani, MLAs Sharad Jain and Harendrajeet Singh Babbu and district Congress President Naresh Sarraf were among those who attended the meeting.
Earlier this afternoon, police staged flag march in curfew-bound six police station areas -- Kotwali, Lordganj, Hanumantal, Gohalpur, Belbaugh and Omti -- where indefinite curfew was clamped late last night.
A decision to relax curfew in night would be taken after review of the two-hour relaxation provided this evening.
Superintendent of Police makrand Deoskar said an attempt was being made to restore communal harmony in view of ongoing Panch Gajrath Mahotsav of Jains and upcoming events of Moharram and 'Virat Hindu Sammelan' on January 30.
