Chandok, Harbinder Sarna co-opted as DSGMC members
New Delhi, Jan 27 (UNI) Veteran Congress leader Prahlad Singh Chandok, who was summoned to the Akal Takht for honouring former union minister Jagdish Tytler, was today co-opted as a member of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee(DSGMC) as a candidate of the Akali Dal(Badal).
Under provision for co-opting two members after the direct election of 46 members for DSGMC, Mr Harbinder Singh Sarna also became a co-opted Committee member with the support of DSGMC members belonging to his party, the Delhi Akali Dal, headed by his brother Mr Paramjit Singh Sarna.
Mr Chandok was summoned to the Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority among the Sikhs in 2004 when he, in the capacity of then DSGMC president, offered 'siropa' (robe of honour) to Mr Jagdish Tytler at a public function. Mr Chandok was, however, later let off by the Akal Takht Jathedar after a 'warning'.
Mr Chandok had unsuccessfuly contested the recent DSGMC election against Mr Paramjit Singh Sarna as an independent candidate with the active support of the Akali Dal (Badal) in Delhi.
The DSGMC members owing allegiance to the Panthic Akali Dal led by Mr Manjit Singh 'Greater Kailash' also backed the candidature of Mr Chandok.
