Avin Thomas erases 30 year old record

Bangalore, Jan 27 (UNI) Avin A Thomas of Calicut University erased 30 year old Meet Record in 400 M Hurdles, even as Sanjo Devi of Himachal Pradesh University created a new meet record in Javelin Throw in the 62nd All India Inter-University Athletic Championship held here today.

Avin covered the distance in 52.45secs to erase old timing of 52.50 secs set in 1977 by Besanth Singh of Punjab University.

Satinder Singh of Gurunanak Dev University and Puyal of Balachandran of Annamalai had to be satisified with Silver and Bronze.

Sanjo threw the Javelin to a record distance of 51.69 Mts to erase the old record distance of 49.79 Mts set by Prajisha of MG University Kerala last year. G Gokila of Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, Chennai and Nisha of Rothak University had to be satisfied with Silver and Bronze respectively.

Results: MEN: 100 M Run: S Arunjit (Ker) I, Manickyavasagam (Mad) II, Md Mudassir (Bg) III. T: 10.71 secs.

400 M Hurdles: Avin A Thomas (Calicut) I, Satinder Singh (Gur) II, Puyal Balachandran (Annamali) III. T: 52.45 secs (NMR old: 52.50- (1977 Besanth Singh).

Triple Jump: Sushanth Bangera (Mumbai) I, Shameer (Ker) II, Anoop (Calicut) III. D: 15.63 Mts.

Hammer Throw: Jagvinder Singh (Pun) I, Sachin (Charan Singh University) II, Hashanmeet Singh (Pun) III. D: 58.45 Mts.

WOMEN: 100 Run: Aishwarya (Bharathiar) I, Shijila (Kannur) II, Sunitha Varghese (MG) III. T: 12.15 secs 400 M Hurdles: Leena Cheriyan (Calicut) I, Ruma Biswas (Calcutta) II, Prathiba (Mds) III, T: 1:01.80 secs.

High Jump: Kavya Muttana (VTU) I, Geethu Scaria (Calicut) II, Lindamol M Rajan (Calicut) III. H: 1.70 Mts; Shot Put: Neelam (Kurukshetra) I, Patwant Kaur (Pun) II, Aplesh (Kurukshetra) III. D: 13.74 mts.
