Puducherry Lt Governor dedicates Bharathi Park
Puducherry,Jan 26(UNI) The Bharathi Park in front of the Legislative assembly here which was beautified at a cost of Rs.4.3 crore was today thrown open for the public.
The Lt Governor Mukut Mithi in the presence of Chief Minister N Rangasamy, his cabinet collegues and legislators dedicated the park.
Talking to newspersons here, Minister for Tourism, Malladi Krishna Rao said the park was handed over to the municipality for maintanance and there will be round the clock garbage cleaning and security. Four fountains, 120 lights, including four focus lights were set up in the park, he added.
Mr Rao said two battery operated vehicles would carry children and old aged persons from the park around the beach here at free of cost. The beach here was artificially extended by 15 meters and it was proposed to extend it by another 20 meters at an estimated cost of Rs 13 to 15 crore, he added.
He said the Chief Minister was approached for permission to utilise the money from the tsunami rehabilitation fund for this purpose.
The minister said he would call on the Union Home Minister, Tourism Minister and Dy Chairman, Planning Commission in New Delhi on February five and six and seek more funds for developmental work here.
