Governor unfurls tricolour at state level parade
Bhubaneswar, Jan 26: Orissa today celebrated the country's 58th Republic Day amid tight security.
While Orissa Governor Rameswar Thakur took the salute at the state level parade on the Mahamta Gandhi Marg here, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unfurled the tricolour at a colourful function inside the Barabati Stadium at Cuttack.
In his message on the eve of the 58th Independence Day, the Governor called upon the people to strive hard to achieve the goals of progress keeping pace with the technological changes taking place around the world.
Mr Thakur said the concept of world peace promoted by the ancient kalinga kingdom in the aftermath of the great Kalinga War was a great contribution of the state.
The indelible imprints of Orissan glory during the Kharvela period were testimony of a prosperous period when Orissa excelled in war fare, state craft, music, dance and sculpture, the Governor said.
Orissa Chief Minister, while unfurling the tricolour at Cuttack, said unprecedented progress in various sectors had enabled India to carve a niche for itself in the international arena.
The country, he said would emerge as major power bloc by 2020 in the world and called upon the people to take a pledge to carry the country to a newer heights.
