'No complacency in achieving devp goals'

Panaji, Jan 26: Goa Governor S C Jamir said there should not be any ''complacency'' in achieving development goals in the state.

Addressing a colourful 58th Republic Day parade at Campal grounds here after receiving ceremonial salute, Mr Jamir urged the people to rededicate themselves for the cause of the country and its progress.

The Army, Navy, state police, NCC and school cadets besides home guards, including women, participated in the parade. Flag Officer Commanding Goa Area Vice Admiral Sanjay Vadgaonkar accompanied the Governor.

Prominent among those present included Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Wilfred De Souza, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Francisco Sardinha besides several ministers, legislators, bureaucrats and prominent citizens.

Enumerating the state's achievements the Governor said the government believes in ''transperancy'' envisaged through e-governance and enforcement of the Right to Information Act.

Efforts, at the sametime, were underway to boost revenues and steps to enforce rural employment guarantee scheme providing employment to villagers for at least 100 days in a year.

Provision of quality education under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and the best health and infrastructure facilities for all sectors, including tourism, which is one of the growth engines of the state economy.

The Governor also said the state had prepared a tribal subplan for tribal welfare and planned to constitute a tribal development council soon.

He had also distributed awards to four Anganwadi women for their dedicated service in the island state.

The parade culminated with a scintillating cultural performance including Gummat Rajasthan Dance and sword dance by about 400 students of different schools from Goa.

The show titled 'Naya Savera' with a song and drill to the tune of Iqbal'song by mentally and physically retarded children saying ''we also can do it'' stole the hearts of the spectators.
