Nepal-Pakistan sign agriculture cooperation
Kathmandu, January 26: Nepal and Pakistan have signed an agreement for Cooperation in Agriculture in accordance with the understanding reached between the Joint Economic Commission of the two nations held at Kathmandu, on March 30, 2005.
The agreement was made with a view to fostering mutually beneficial cooperation in agricultural research and development between the two countries, according to a press release of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives Ganesh Kumar KC of Nepal and Muhammad Ismail Qureshim, Secretary of Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Government of Pakistan, jointly signed the agreement on behalf their respective Governments.
The agreement outlines the framework for collaboration in research and development in various sub sectors of agriculture, including livestock, food technology and forest related research, development and agro-industries through exchange of scientist, experts, extension workers, stakeholders and technologies and information.
The identified areas for cooperation include, among others; mountainous areas farming development; soil and water conservation and management; watershed management technology; farm/social forestry and rangeland management technology; cold water fisheries/aquaculture; apiculture and forest products; livestock feed and breed improvements.
