Nabard sanctions Rs 19.68 cr for Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 26 (UNI) NABARD has sanctioned Rs 19.68 crore for strengthening infrastructure in Rural Health Care Centres attached to medical colleges in Thrissur and Alappuzha in Kerala.

An official release said Thrissur Medical College would get Rs 10 crore and the balance would go to Alapuzha Medical College.

This would benefit poor sections of people in Thirssur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts.

About 18.8 million rural population of these eight districts was expected to get better health care facilities in government sector from the two projects.

Considering Kerala's habitation pattern, development of the rural health infrastructure will result in substantial savings in cost of medical treatment for rural poor, access to timely medical care and better utilisation of existing infrastructure.

These projects are expected to generate 279 recurring jobs annually besides generation of non-recurring employment of 8.17 lakh man-days.

With this, the sanctions under RIDF-XII(2006-07) have gone up to Rs 188.62 crore and the cumulative sanctions in the state under RIDF had reached Rs 1,749.57 crore covering 2,664 projects.
