Mizoram made bamboo venture with Taiwan

Aizawl, Jan 26: In order to utilise the natural resources, Mizoram government has made joint venture with Taiwan based Boarke Machine Company for setting up of bamboo floor board industry while the state bamboo development agency signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zonun Matply Ltd and Venus Bamboo Products Ltd of West Bengal.

Delivering speech on the ocassion of 57th annaversary of India's Republic this morning at Assam Rifles ground here Mizoram governor Lt Gen (Rtd) M M Lakhera said that the governemnt has emphasised on development of small and midium scale industries in the state.

''Since, Mizoram is rich in natural resources, we have given maximum thrust to bamboo processing in view of impending gregarious bamboo flowering'', he said adding that the state has been supplying bamboo poles and chips to NITOL group of industries in Bangladesh.

Mr Lakhera has also stated that as part of implementation of 'Look East Policy', Govt of India has agreed to take up Kaladan multi-model transport project at the cost of Rs 74.59 crore, which envisages to link the NE states with Sittwe port in Myanmar.

''We believe the project will transform the economy of Northeast as vital linkages will be provided for export of the region's natural surplus while import could be made at cheaper and cost will be drastically reduce'', he underlined.

To attain self-sufficiency in food grains and vegetable crops, the state government is continued endeavour to sustain productivity and improve living standard as well as resotre ecological balance, he added.
