Militant killed in ongoing Kashmir gunbattle

Srinagar, Jan 26 (UNI) A militant was killed in an ongoing gunbattle in south Kashmir today, an Army spokesman said.

Troops, on a tip-off, launched a search operation at a village in Kokernag area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district this morning.

During the operation, he said militants opened fire on troops, which was effectively retaliated.

In the ensuing gunbattle, a militant was killed, the spokesman said, adding the encounter was on when reports last came in.
