Mah will continue to be the frontrunner: Krishna

Mumbai, Jan 26: Amid high security, Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna, took the salute for the 58th Republic Day at a colorful parade at the Shivaji Park in Dadar here today.

On the occassion, Mr Krishna appreciated the people of Mumbai for giving a befitting reply to terrorist designs by maintaining communal harmony in the wake of the 7/11 serial blasts.

''The international community recognises the average Mumbaikar and the people of Maharashtra for displaying courage, optimism and bond during the adverse circumstances of the serial blasts.

Incidently, the people of the city has proved that terror can be combated effectively through unity and fraternity.'' Recalling the large scale flooding that hit 31 districts across the State for the second consecutive year in 2006, he said the state machinery successfully handled it.

He wished that Maharashtra continued to retain its status as the main contributor towards the progress and development of India.

Addressing the agrarian problem, the Governor said farmers in the State will be provided with loan at six per cent interest to enhance their productivity and income. This will be done by introducing the latest technology giving a boost to the overall investment in agriculture.

A Draft Housing Policy was announced on November 1, 2006, reiterating the State's resolve to provide affordable housing to its people, especially the economically weaker sections and those in low income group and middle income bracket, he said.
