JK: Infiltration bid foiled at Kanachak border

Jammu, Jan 26: One militant was killed as an infiltration bid, under cover firing of Pakistan Rangers, was foiled by the Border Security Force in Kanachak sector of Jammu and Kashmir late last night, official sources said here today.

A BSF patrolling party spotted movement of armed militants at the border opposite its 'Garud' post, about 30 km north-west of Jammu, and opened fire at the suspected infiltrators. Heavy firing took place at forward village of Kirpalpur along the international border.

The BSF jawans retaliated after being fired upon at Garud Post near Alfa Machail at Kirpalpur village in Kanachak sector. Exchange of firing, which started at 2100 hrs, continued till late last night.

It was the second infiltration bid under Pakistan Rangers cover firing in last 10 days, the previous one being at Matkola in Akhnoor sector on January 16 night in which two BSF personnel sustained serious injuries.
