Govt to take steps to solve coir industry issues: CM
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 26 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the government would take all steps to solve the issues faced by the coir industry in the state.
Unveiling the new brand logo of Kerala Coir, "Golden Yarn of God's Own Country", he said there was a conflict existing between the small scale coir units and industrialists in the sector.
Stressing the need for strengthening good relationship between them, he said the government would discuss the issue with trade union leaders to evolve an amicable settlement in this regard.
Mr Achuthanandan assured that necessary steps would be taken to ensure sufficient husks to the coir workers.
Pointing out the high demand for coir products of Kerala, he said only through maintaining quality and applying modern methods in production of coir we could compete in the international market.
The Chief Minister suggested that steps should be taken to expose our products in the international market and the new logo would help to attract more business to the state.
Presiding over the function, state Co-operation Minister G Sudhakaran said the government was expecting a turn over of Rs 1,500 crore in the international market, besides another Rs 2,000 crore in the domestic market.
