BEL to procure 30,634 Passive Night Vision Devices

Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Jan 26: The public sector Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) would procure 30,634 image intensifer-based Passive Night Vision Device (PNVD) on a Transfer of Technology (TOT) basis for supplying the armed forces.

An official spokesperson of BHEL, told UNI here that the state-of-the-art PNVDs would include passive Night Vision Sight for 5.56 mm INSAS Rifle and Light Machine gun, Passive Night Vision Rocket Launcher and Passive Night Vision Binoculars.

The official said the Bangalore unit of BEL, engaged in the manufacturing of defence and professional grade electronic equipment has bagged a prestigious order for supply of 200,000 Set Top Boxes (STBs) from M/s Wire and Wireless India Limited (WWIL) of ZEE Group Mumbai.

The STBs, supplied with embedded conditional access softare would enable the subscriber to select and choose the pay channels from the bouquet offered by WWIL.

BEL has won the prestigious Standing Conference of Public Enterprise (SCOPE) excellence award in the medium public sector enterprise catageory for 2005-06. The award would be presented by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the conference of Chief Executives of Public Sector Enterprises to be held on March 8 at New Delhi, he added.

During 2005-06, BEL recorded a turnover Rs 3,536 crore through its nine units, he said adding 4 to 5 per cent of its annual turnover was spent on Research and Development every year.
