Bahujan Samaj Morcha to support Congress in Punjab polls
Ludhiana, Jan 26 (UNI) The Bahujan Samaj Morcha (BSM), a breakaway faction of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), today extended unconditional support to the ruling Congress in the assembly polls in Punjab to be held on February 13.
''We have not set any pre-conditions for our support and neither have we demanded any seats from the Congress'', BSM chief and former Lok Sabha member Satnam Kainth said, addressing a media conference alongwith Chief Minister Amarinder Singh here.
''The Congress was the best suited party for Punjab and the Amarinder government had done a commendable job during its five year rule,'' Mr Kainth said, appealing to all dalits to vote for the Congress in the polls.
In the last assembly polls, the BSM had an alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and had put up candidates in Banga and Sham Churasi, both reserved constituencies. Both BSM candidates, including Mr Kainth who contested from Banga, had lost their security deposits.
Reacting to the support extended by the BSM, Capt Singh said the stand taken by Mr Kaith was on ideological grounds and no pre-conditions were attached.
