Asom celebrates R-Day peacefully

Guwahati, Jan 26 (UNI) Defying the bandh call by ultras, Asom today celebrated the Republic Day peacefully and with traditional fanfare.

Asom Governor Lt General Ajai Singh took the salute at an impressive ceremony here, but outside the official venue, the roads were deserted and shops were closed.

According to official sources, there was no incident of violence reported from any part of the state and all official functions of the Republic Day went off peacefully. However, turnout at all these functions was very poor as people stayed away from the functions, fearing militant attacks.

IGP(SB) Khagen Sharma informed that security forces recovered 10 kg explosives from Rangiya this morning, averting a major disaster.
