87 ill after consuming contaminated food

Mandala, MP, Jan 26 (UNI) Eighty seven people, including 70 schoolchildren, fell ill after consuming food distributed as a part of Republic Day celebration at a village near Bamhani in this district, official sources said.

'Murra' and 'Chiraunji' were distributed as sweets to schoolchildren and some villagers in Guvara Gram panchayat.

After consuming the sweets, some people complained of diarrohea.

About 25 people, including children, were immediately admitted to a primary healthcare centre in Bamhani.

As per preliminary information, food material was brought in a sack of urea fertiliser which resulted in contamination, sources said.

A magisterial inquiry was ordered into the incident.

On receiving information, BJP MLA Shivraj Singh Shah and block medical officer A N Kori visited the spot.
