118 nominations for second phase of election

Imphal, Jan 26: About 118 candidates have so far filed their nomination papers for the second phase of Manipur Assembly elections to be held on February 14.

The elections would be held to 29 Assembly segments in Imphal West, Imphal East and Bishenpur districts.

Tomorrow is the last date of filing nominations.

About 77 candidates had already filed their nomination papers for the first phase of elections to be held on February 8 in 19 assembly segments in the Thoubal, Senapati and Ukhrul districts.

The third phase of elections will be held on February 23 in 12 Assembly segments of Chandel and Churachandpur districts.

The notification of filing of nomination papers for the third phase will be issued tomorrow.

Prominent personalities who have submitted their nomination papers included Mr R K Dorendra (Manipur People's Party) from Yaiskul, Mr W Nipamacha (RJD) for Wangoi and Radhabinod Koijam (NCP) for Thangmeiband.

Former Union minister Thounaojam Chaoba (MPP) filed paper from Nambol and MPP President Dr L Chandramani from Patsoi.

Officials said scrutiny will be take place on January 29 and candidates can withdraw their candidature till January 31.
