Trinamool leader remanded to judicial custody

Barasat, Jan 25 (UNI) A sub-divisional judicial magistrate court today remanded Trinamool Congress leader and former MLA Sanjay Bakshi to judicial custody till February eight.

Mr Bakshi, president of Trinamool Youth Congress, was taken into custody yesterday for his alleged involvement in torturing and intimidating a woman at Baguiati near here.

He was arrested following an FIR lodged with Rajarhat police station and produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Hargovind Singh this afternoon.

Defence lawyers said the allegation was baseless and non-tenable and pleaded for bail.

The ACJM, however, rejected the bail petition and ordered remand of the accused to judicial custody till February eight.
